About ISO Standards

In 1946, delegates from 25 countries met in London and decided to create a new international organisation,  with an objective "to facilitate the international coordination and unification of industrial standards". The new organisation, ISO, officially began operations on 23 February 1947.

Today ISO is a network of the national standards institutes of 148 countries and has over 19,500 standards, touching almost all aspects of daily life. It occupies a special position between the public and private sectors. Many of its member institutes are part of the governmental structure of their countries, or are mandated by their government. Other members have their roots in the private sector, having been set up by national partnerships of industry associations. As a result, ISO is able to act as a bridging organisation in which a consensus can be reached on solutions that meet both business requirements and the broader needs of society, such as the needs of stakeholder groups like consumers and users.

The national standards institute for the UK is the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). ACM Limited is a UKAS Accredited Certification Body (0245) to ISO 17021:2011. This means that  ISO certificates issued by us carry the prestigious "tick and crown" which is the common yardstick of compliance in both the UK and internationally.
